Xbox360, its not just for Call of Duty anymore

I’m not an early adopter of video game systems or anything really.

  • I didn’t have a cell phone until 2001.
  • No MP3 player until ’06
  • Xbox360, I waited almost 2 years from launch until I made the leap.

I was in my hometown for a poker game when I first saw the demo for Call of Duty 4 multiplayer.  Wow.

COD4  launched, I bought the xbox, the game and an Xbox live gold membership. ( -$450)

The system came with 2 games, Forza2 and Marvel Comic Ultimate Alliance.  I have played neither.  Call of Duty – World at War was released, I played it some, but back to COD4 I went.  Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 was released and it is amazing. So, the trend continues…

A few days ago, Xbox got an update.  With it, Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm applications became available.

At last count, there was approx. 200 too many twitter clients in existence, so who cares.

Facebook on the xbox seems interesting, only for adding xbox live users from your friends list.

Last.fm is kind of unique.  For years, last fm scrobbled my daily music listening.  It knows my favorites better than I do.  I will definitely try to use my Xbox for more than COD and Last.fm may be the first step towards recovery.

However, if COD starts releasing a bunch of maps, they are going to A) get rich off me and B) derail my efforts to use the 360 in a more versatile way.

Love Last.fm.

I can understand not being able to stream music while playing multiplayer, but it’s a shame that I can’t listen to Last.fm while playing a single-player game.

Facebook on the 360 is kinda cool. More of a novelty for me though as I don’t log into it on the PC much anymore either. I continue to resist getting a Twitter account. I just lurk on my friend’s Twitter RSS feeds instead. ;D
